The West Virginia Mothman (Birdman) originates from sightings in Point Pleasant, West Virginia in 1966. The Mothman (or Bird-Man) was first sighted on November 12th, 1966, by five men who were digging a grave at a local cemetery near Clendenin, WV. They claimed to have seen a "man-like figure fly low from the trees over their heads"

A woman by the name of Linda Scarberry claimed that her and her husband had seen the Mothman "hundreds of times" and that "it seems he doesn't want to hurt you, but just to communicate".
The Mothman was said to be confused with the Sandhill Crane by wildlife biologist Dr. Robert L. Smith of West Virginia University.
These sightings ended after the Silver Bridge collapse of December 15th, 1967, which the death toll was 46.
Most people believe the Mothman was connected to the bridge collapse, while others claimed sightings were connected to UFOs, and that the TNT Area, which was a World War II munitions plant, was the Mothman's "home". A later sighting in 2001, the Mothman was supposedly seen the August before the Twin Towers collapse and 6 hours before the I-35W bridge collapse.
